La Cappella di Sierra La Villa fa parte del percorso di ricerca sul concetto di piega sviluppato da Sancho-Madridejos nel corso degli anni. La prima opera realizzata nell’ambito di questa linea di studio è stata la Cappella di Valleacerón.
In questo caso, il progetto si sviluppa a partire da una piega curva, in cui la forma nasce dall’espressione delle tensioni applicate esistenti.
Come nella Cappella di Valleacerón, viene utilizzato un calcestruzzo dorato come materiale capace di conferire unità all’intero progetto. In questo caso, tuttavia, la destinazione d’uso richiede anche un sistema di illuminazione e riscaldamento degli spazi interni, oltre a un arredamento essenziale.
La cappella è situata all’interno di una vasta tenuta, immersa nella natura, isolata da altre costruzioni e circondata da una vegetazione spontanea che forma una piccola terrazza naturale. Il progetto è concepito per offrire una duplice modalità di avvicinamento: dall’interno della tenuta, la cappella si rivela progressivamente lungo un percorso, pur rimanendo nascosta alla vista da lontano; dall’esterno, invece, diventa un punto di riferimento nel paesaggio, poiché si colloca sull’asse principale della strada che conduce alla proprietà.
Insieme alla cappella, un insieme di elementi inseriti nel paesaggio completa quello che è stato concepito come un unico intervento architettonico: l’abitazione principale con i suoi spazi esterni e altre piccole strutture, come un padiglione per picnic e un punto panoramico.

The Chapel in Sierra La Villa is part of the investigation process around the concept of fold
developed by Sancho-Madridejos throughout the years, the first completed work in this line of
study being the Chapel in Valleaceron.
In this case the project develops from a curved fold, where the shape arises from the expression of
the existing applied tensions.
As in the Chapel in Valleaceron, golden concrete is used as a material that can give unity to the
project. In this case, however, the intended use requires both interior lighting and heating, as well
as a minimum amount of furnishing.
The chapel is located in a large estate, in the middle of nature, isolated from other constructions
and surrounded by natural vegetation that forms a small terrace. There is a double approach to
the project: from within the state, in which the chapel is revealed from a path but is hidden from
the view from afar, and from the outside, in which the chapel becomes a reference in the landscape,
as it sits in the main axis from the road that grants access to the estate.
Along the chapel, a group of elements amidst the landscape complete what is conceived as a
single intervention: the main dwelling and its surroundings, and other small features such as a
picnic marquee or a lookout point.
